This course provides an assessment of contemporary medicine from a Christian perspective. In particular, we will consider how the goods of medicine relate to the Christian moral vision informed by life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ as attested in Scripture and confessed and interpreted by the church. The basic outlines of this moral vision will provide a moral framework for thinking about contemporary issues related to healthcare and ethics, including the relationship between bioethics and Christian ethics, physician-patient relationship, issues relating to having and preventing children, genetic engineering, euthanasia, gender reassignment surgery, scarcity of resources, and human enhancement.
