We’re Celebrating Our 10-Year Anniversary!

Written by Dr. Joe Thomas

Welcome Back to Urbana Theological Seminary for the 2012-13 school year!  We want to invite you to celebrate Urbana Seminary’s 10-year anniversary this year!  The last 10 years have brought many God-filled moments and we want to give all praise and glory to God!

In April of 2002 God provided a gift that allowed the Christian Studies Center to develop into Urbana Theological Seminary.  Then in 2007 we received degree granting authority from the Illinois Board of Higher Education.  Since that time we have seen our graduates become pastors, plant churches, go to the mission field, lead and teach in their home churches, pursue scholarly work and fulfill many other callings from God.

As a seminary we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate 10 years of training in Christian ministry and leadership than inviting several marquee Christian leaders to help us understand better the relationship of our Christian faith to Christian living.

Sept. 7 and 8, 2012

Jennifer Lahl, founder and President of The Center for Bioethics and Culture Network, will present her award winning documentary Eggsploitation (with discussion) in Bloomington-Normal Friday evening, Sept. 7, at Christ Church, and her latest documentary Anonymous Father’s Day (with discussion) in Champaign-Urbana Saturday morning, Sept. 8, at the Champaign Public Library.  Urbana Seminary is co-hosting this event along with Carle Foundation Hospital as our second annual Bio-Ethics Seminar.

Oct. 20, 2012

Dr. Thomas S. Kidd, Associate Professor of History at Baylor University, will speak on the topic of “God of Liberty: The Religious Dynamics of America’s Founding Era.”  A lecture and discussion you will not want to miss just a few weeks out from the 2012 presidential election.

Feb. 2, 2013

Well known author, speaker and scholar Dr. Scot McKnight, Professor of New Testament at Northern Seminary, will join us in February.  His blog Jesus Creed is read by thousands around the world.

March 4, 2013

Dr. Zack Eswine, Senior Pastor at Riverside Church in St. Louis, will lead our annual Pastor’s Forum on the topic of “Preaching Christ to a Culture without the Bible.”  Pastor Eswine won Preaching Today’s Book of the Year award in 2009 for his Preaching to a Post-Everything World.

April 20, 2013 Founders Day Celebration

Dr. Todd Rendleman, Associate Professor of Communication at Seattle Pacific University – and a former Urbana Seminary student – will speak at our Founders Day Celebration on the subject of “Two Thumbs Up: The Christian and Culture.”  Dr. Rendleman is the author of Rule of Thumb: Ebert at the Movies.  We will conclude our 10-year anniversary celebration at Founders Day with a time of worship and praise to our great God!

Please come and join us this year as we celebrate the first ten years of Urbana Seminary!
